Nurse Office Info

As the school year is winding down, I wanted to remind you about a few things:

Shots

If you take your child for 7th grade shots, please send me a copy to the McAnally Nurse Office. I enter them electronically and place the paper copy in the paper student health file. Both electronic and paper copies follow them to the Middle School. Weekly, I inform Kathy Allen (over Curriculum Development and District Nurses in Administration) an updated immunizations for 7th grade and continue through the end of May. If you don’t send me a copy, I cannot enter it electronically or place it in the paper health file and the Head Nurse will be contacting you over the summer to bring a copy to the Middle School over summer break.

The shots needed are:

Tdap booster

Meningococcal (sometimes called menactra or MCV4)

2nd Varicella (chickenpox shot) If your child has had the chickenpox illness, a second shot is not necessary, but documentation is needed.

As I receive new shots, I am entering them electronically and this next week will print the students who have turned one in recently, an updated copy to go home. Replace the copy sent home at Spring Break with this new copy, please. Remember to keep this thru Middle School starting in August.

Med Pick-Up

The last few weeks of school, you will receive a letter about the policy for picking up your child’s meds. When you receive this, you will need to complete it, sign it, and return it if you plan to obtain the remaining doses of your child’s medication the last week of school. The medication will be ready the last week of school for pick up.

Six Flags Field Trip

The field trip to Six Flags is coming up soon. I go on the Field Trip and carry medications for students with Medication Forms currently in the nurse office and first aid supplies. If you have a child with special dietary/medication needs, please let me know in writing so I can work that out ahead of time and help those students get into the park. State policy for Texas Schools requires 24 hours for notifying the nurse prior to field trips for medications, dietary needs, ect.

**********Other Info**********

Medications

Don’t forget, that the state policy Aledo ISD follows on medications, requires parents/families to send medication to be given in the nurse office.

Over the Counter medications, a Med form needs to be completed with the medication being sent – med must be in the container, no baggies

Prescription medications, the prescription needs  to be sent to the nurse office with a doctor’s order from your child’s doctor - Prescriptions cannot be given without an order (pharmacy labels on the med are not doctor’s orders). Each student that sends medications has a med drawer with their medication kept in the drawer.

PE Notes

Remember, if your child is injured outside of their school day (sports practice, games, at home, ect), PE Coaches have asked that you write a note to her about their injury and participation level. She has asked to remind that notes from home are good for three days and beyond three days, a note from the child’s physician is required. One copy is placed in your child’s PE paper file and the other copy is place in your child’s paper health file and will follow them to 7th grade.

Thank you,

Mrs. Creed

Shot Clinic Information

With report cards, McAnally Intermediate sent home information about the shots 6th graders need for 7th grade. Please make sure you have read the upcoming shot clinic information

There are four sheets to the packet from the Nurse Office:

1. Information letter about the dates/times of the shot clinic being offered.

2. A letter/checklist of the needed shots or notification if the student has all shots and is ready for 7th grade

3.The student’s medical profile (contains all shots provided to the school in an electronic print out and includes past screenings)

4. The permission form for the shot clinic to be completed and returned by Tues, March 18th

PLEASE KEEP the first three pages of the packet and only return the last page if you choose to use the shot clinic. Parker County Hospital District will be at McAnally for the shot clinic. If you choose to use the clinic, you will receive a copy of the shots received that day to keep. PLEASE KEEP the shot information for any summer camps and if needed for 7th grade. If a student is anxious about the shot clinic, I will be here and can help comfort them and for increased anxiety, I can arrange for them to have the shots in a private area at McAnally if needed.

All shots provided to the school are in each student’s paper health file and entered electronically. After the clinic, I will update the new shots electronically. If you choose to not use this shot clinic, make sure to obtain the needed shots and bring them to McAnally before the end of the school year or have them to Aledo Middle School after June 1st, please.

If you feel that I have not entered your child’s shots correctly, please email me (so I can keep you in my inbox as a reminder) with a message and I will look into it and contact you so it can be corrected.

Thank you,

Shots, Spring Shot Clinic, & PE Notes

Parents and families of 6th graders

Our holiday break is over and we are back. The Nurse Office will be getting ready for the spring so your child will be ready to go to the 7th grade (from a health standpoint).

Immunizations

I had 6 more shots turned into the Nurse Office and those have all been entered electronically as of today.

Don’t forget that if your child has had the following shots, please send me a copy to the McAnally Nurse Office. I enter them electronically and place the paper copy in the paper student health file. Both electronic and paper copies follow them to the Middle School. Bi-Weekly, I send Kathy Allen (over Curriculum Development and District Nurses in Administration) an updated immunization list for 7th grade and continue through the spring months. We have had 75 students turn in proof of those shots and those have all been entered electronically as they were sent. Thank you!

The shots needed are:

Tdap booster

Meningococcal (sometimes called menactra or MCV4)

2nd Varicella (chickenpox shot) If your child has had the chickenpox illness, a second shot is not necessary, but documentation is needed.

Shot Clinic
McAnally will have Parker County Hospital District offer a shot clinic coming up. Usually this is scheduled after Spring Break. The date is to be determined, but I will let you know as soon as I have a date. The clinic is done in the school nurse office and if parents can't be here, the Nurse is available for hugs or holding a hand during the shots. If there is potential for anxiety, it can be arranged that the shots are given privately without any other student's in the room.

Watch for a message in February with a date for the clinic.

If you cannot send a med form, please handwrite a written note about the medication  and I will complete a med form and send it home with your child that day for you to sign.

Each student that sends medications has a med drawer with their medication kept in the drawer. These medications are only used for the student that brought the meds in. Please make sure any medication you want given is brought into the nurse office. You will be notified of the time your child is taking the medication and it will be kept safe in the nurse office.

PE Notes

Remember, if your child is injured outside of their school day (sports practice, games, at home, ect), Coach Brooks has asked that you write a note to her about their injury and participation level. She has asked to remind that notes from home are good for three days and beyond three days, a note from the child’s physician is required. If you go to a minor emergency clinic instead of the regular doctor’s office, ask for a note for PE if the physician you see feels a note is needed. One copy is placed in your child’s PE paper file and the other copy is place in your child’s paper health file and will follow them tp 7th grade.

Thank you,

Mrs. Creed
